THE Penang branch of the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) will hold its MRC Charity Fair 2014 on May 18 at the All Season Place mall in Bandar Baru Air Itam in a bid to raise RM150,000 for its Community-based Ambulance Service (ComBase) project.

Event organising chairman Chua Seong Hai said coupons were now being sold at RM20 per booklet the MRC office (04-8275678) in Jalan Grove and the mall’s management office.
“The coupons can be used to purchase food, items and services offered in the mall’s shops, which will be having special discounts during the event from 10am to 4pm.

“Proceeds collected will then be channelled to the ComBase project which is operating 12-hour ambulance service centres in Permatang Tinggi and Butterworth on the mainland and Batu Maung on the island,” he told a press conference recently.

Also present were MRC Penang branch chairman Datuk B.J. Yeang and Air Itam assemblyman Wong Hon Wai.

Wong started the ball rolling by donating RM2,000 from his allocation as encouragement for the private sector and individuals to donate.

He said the ambulance service benefited Penangites as MRC Penang had always rallied round to support the state government and its agencies in times of disasters.
